Today’s update – 27/01

27 Jan

Today’s multi-cultural day was a great success!! The children loved it and got so involved in it.

The children were divided into 3 groups – one group doing the bread, another group doing the pizza and another doing the chocolate balls. The children were left free to choose in which groiup to go and all were happy. You can see from the lovely pics.

Until the pizza and the pasta were being cooked the children went to the outdoor area to play. Following this, we prepared the flags of each country and prepared the buffet table with all the food.

I take the opportunity to thank all the parents for all your co-operation and involvement. This activity was a good extension to this week’s topic and apart from widening the children’s knoweldge about the world around them they had great fun!!

Enjoy the photos!!

Dear all,

I am proud to say that the children are doing very well in both numeracy and literacy. If we believe in our children they will show us great results and good performance. Keep it up kids :-)

English – Today I  gave out their small white boards, swithced on the Jolly Phonics rhymes, and after each rhyme the children were asked to write the letter. Most of them did this task on their own without needeing any assistance. The backup of this task shows the good work done in term 1 regarding the preperation for pre-writing skills in the sand, paint and flashcards. After the activity, we continued with the letter a writing and some started the letter t dots too.

Math – During this lesson, today we focused on number counting from 1 till 20 and on number sequence from 1 till 10. I gave out the tiny flashcards with you have laminated, and the children managed to put the numbers in order. The children who needed help were shown once, then they were given the number line and they managed to complete the task on their own by following the numbers on the number line. This could be a great task and revision for home. Following this we continued with No. 7 and did an excercise from the workbook to reinforce number sequence.

Topic – Space and our globe – Today the children were read a story called The way back home, which is about a boy and a martian who landed on the moon becasue their engines had broke. After reading it, each child was given a template rocket and he/she had to draw something about the story. If you look at the rockets outside class you can see how each child is an individual having his/her own interpretation of something. Every child came out with great drawings!!!

Then later on each child was given an astronaut. They were laughing whist doing this craft because the astonoaut represents each child as a photo of the child is stuck on the astonaut’s face. :-) we will continue this crafts tomorrow.

Finally, we are out of wipes and glue sticks. Please when you can send a packet of wipes and 2 glue sticks.

Thanks!!

English – revision of lettter w and continuation with the writing of letter a. When doing the homework it is important to reinforce on the formation of the letter a – starting at the top, go round, up, down again and a curly tail. This is how it should be done.

Numeracy – revision of heavier and lighter concept and continuation of number 7.

Topic – decorated aliens and monsters

Hello parents and children,

it’s nice to be home having a cup of hot chocolate near the heater and writing on the blog. It was freezing in the classroom today. I kept the children busy so they don’t feel cold.

English – Introduced the letter w – w for wind and continued the writing of the letter a. As you might have noticed, as from this term we will be doing one letter a week practicing the writing and we will also be introducing a new letter until week 5. Then as from week 6 we will start practicing the writing of 2 letters per week. Most of the children can recognize all the letters done so far and thus we started with the blending of words. We do this orally through activities and games with flashcards. Today we read the following words – red, mug, fan, ink, sat, cat, cot, fin, bun, zip and got. – http://prejuniorareading.wikispaces.com/Letters+a-z+on+line+games Scroll down for the w song

Math – Numbers covered so far (only recognition) – 1 till 15. Children should recognize and count up to 15 at this stage. It will be helpful if you do some revision at home. With regards to writing till now we covered the number 1 and we started the number 7. – http://numeracywikispace.wikispaces.com/Numbers+from+1-20

Today I introduced a new concept – heavier and lighter. We played games with the scales and did some oral work before we moved on to the workbook. The children grasped this concept very well.

Topic - space and the globe. Today we painted aliens and monsters and tomorrow we are going to decorate them – http://prejuniortopic.wikispaces.com/Space
